KOFI BOAKYE NATIONAL NAACP ACT-SO WINNER

The NAACP National ACT-SO  (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics), Competition was held Friday, July 13, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.  ACT-SO is an achievement program sponsored by the NAACP designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among high school students of African descent.  ACT-SO currently includes 32 categories of competition in the sciences, humanities, business, performing and visual arts, and entrepreneurship. Over 700 students from across the United States competed in the 2018 competition.

The Akron Chapter of the NAACP sponsored two students to the national competition, Kofi Boakye and Chika Nkwocha.

 

Kofi Boakye, a classically trained pianist, won a Silver Medal in music instrumental-contemporary. The only medalist from Ohio, Kofi is a 2018 graduate of Akron Early College. He is in his third academic year at the University of Akron and will graduate in 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in business. He plans to earn a Master’s degree at Berkeley College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
